I really enjoyed their set at the battle of the bands. However, the idea that The Nervebreakers somehow rigged the results is certainly false. We were (and still are) flattered that someone thought that we had enough muscle to make that demand. It makes for a good story, but it's not true. "Battle Of the Bands" is still a good song, though. Check out the Nervebreakers March 17 at SXSW. I truely loved this band! The Bodysnatchers were the real deal. When we went into the studio, all we wanted was to capture a Bodysnatcher performance. Not a studio session where there were no risks involved. No overdubs, just live to a 2tk machine. Raw and real. Simply put... The Bodysnatchers, as you mentioned were all great musicians, but they were also unique individuals each with a wide variety of sonic personality. The responsibility to capture the Bodysnatchers live in the studio was daunting. Capturing the Bodysnatchers wall of sound while recording and mixing on the fly to a 2tk MCI was (on both sides of the glass) quite liberating to put it mildly. In my opinion, they were the pros of punk. Like The Clash, they were very musical, and exciting to see and hear live. I'm very proud of of what we accomplished that night in Austin. Crank the volume up and you'll hear the room and know you're listening to a live performance. Everything was created in that moment. In 1978 Austin, The Bodysnatchers were the only ones that had the balls to go into a 24tk studio and say "fuck it, we're recording live. What ever happens in this room is who we are." I loved and admired their confidence and attitude, I mean after all....they were The Bodysnatchers!Pod52https://www.blogger.com/profile/14991590951247014840noreply@blogger.com
